In a heartfelt tribute to retiring opener David Warner on Tuesday, Australia’s iconic captain Ricky Ponting stated that Warner’s effect on Australian cricket made it tough to find a substitute for his “unbelievable” career across all three forms.
After Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh in Kingstown and eliminated reigning champions Australia from the T20 World Cup at the Super 8 stage, David Warner 15-year-old international career came to an end.
The 37-year-old DC opener was tutored by Ponting while he was a member of the Delhi Capitals of the Indian Premier League. He had also played under his leadership.
Australia lost their last Super 8 encounter at Gros Islet, Saint Lucia, against India by 24 runs in a hard-fought contest on Monday. Afghanistan then defeated Bangladesh to eliminate Australia from the competition.
David has said that if he continues to play well, he will think about joining the Australian ODI team again for the Champions Trophy early in the next year, despite the possibility that he is now retired from all international forms.
