The announcement that opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy will miss the opening Test against Pakistan owing to injury has dealt a setback to Bangladesh.
During a recent four-day encounter between Bangladesh A and Pakistan A, Joy, 23, suffered a groin injury. According to scans, he had a Grade 1 adductor strain.
As a result, Joy will miss the first match of the pivotal ICC World Test Championship series in Pakistan, which gets underway in Rawalpindi on Wednesday. He will also have to race against the clock to be well in time for the second match, which takes place at the same location on August 30.
According to Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan, “Joy had complained of pain in the right groin on August 14 while playing for Bangladesh A in the four-day match against Pakistan A.”
“After a physical examination and an MRI, it was determined that he had a Grade 1 adductor strain in his right groin.
“His recovery has started. Recovery from such injuries often takes ten to fourteen days. We want to have him ready for the second Test, which begins on August 30, but he won’t be available for the first one.”
Since making his Test debut against Pakistan in 2021, Joy has been a consistent member of Bangladesh’s team. In 13 Test match appearances, the right-hander has amassed one century and four half-centuries.
Bangladesh, who is presently ranked seventh in the World Test Championship, would be eager to get two wins in Pakistan in order to maintain their chances of making it to the special Lord’s final the following year.
