Even though batsmen from other sides piled up the runs across four sites in the competition’s first round, Ishan Kishan marked his comeback to red-ball cricket on the first day of the Buchi Babu Invitational Cricket Tournament.
Even though the reigning champions, Madhya Pradesh, managed to post 225/8 in 89.5 overs at stumps, Kishan made a spectacular diving catch of Ramveer Gurjar to start his comeback to red-ball cricket.
After choosing to bat first, a young Madhya Pradesh fell to 33/2, which quickly turned into 47/3. Following that, Shubham S. Kushwah (84) and Arham Aquil (57) put on an 84-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Still, when Aquil fell,

Group B – Railways vs Gujarat (Salem)
With the combined efforts of Shubham Chaudhary (good 88), Pratham Singh (great 130), and Vivek Singh (fine 104), Railways defeated Priyank Panchal-led Gujarat by a massive 429/6. Railways ended the day on a high note because to the three players’ batting performances, even though Gujarat pulled off a late comeback, taking four wickets for 46 runs. Siddharth Desai, a left-arm spinner, was Gujarat’s most effective bowler with three wickets.

Group C – Mumbai vs Haryana (Coimbatore)
Dheeru Singh’s outstanding 130 not out and youthful Nishant Sindhu’s brilliant 91—a part of the Indian team that won the 2022 U19 World Cup—helped Haryana record 288/6 against Mumbai, the current Ranji Trophy winners.
After choosing to bat first, Mumbai bowler Sylvester D’Souza claimed two wickets, leaving Haryana in ruins at 29-3 in the seventh over. However, Dheeru and Sindhu came together to put up a 168-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Haryana lost two more wickets after Sindhu departed, but Dheeru is still undefeated at the crease.

Group D – Jammu & Kashmir vs Chandigarh (Natham)
Amandeep Khare scored 65 and Ayush Pandey top-scored with 138 as Chhattisgarh was bowled out for 278 in 76.4 overs. Jammu & Kashmir, in turn, had a difficult time finishing Day One with 29/2 in 12.5 overs. They lost Vivrant Sharma and Ahmed Banday, and J&K now trails Chhattisgarh by 249 runs.
After Pandey and Shashank Chandrakar chose to bat first, they had a 52-run opening partnership till Khare and the former combined for 143 runs to put Chhattisgarh’s innings on the board for the third wicket.
But a late collapse saw them being bowled out for two runs short of 280, before ending the day on ascendancy by taking two J&K scalps.
