Former Indian all-rounder Dodda Ganesh has been appointed head coach of Kenya’s men’s cricket team ahead of the Africa Qualifiers for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers, former Indian all-rounder Dodda Ganesh has been named head coach of Kenya’s men’s cricket squad. The 51-year-old Ganesh, who struggled in four Test matches and one ODI but fared well in first-class cricket, amassing over 2000 runs and 365 wickets for Karnataka, will have the difficult task of restoring Kenyan cricket to its former glory when it participated in five World Cups between 1996 and 2011. The Associate Member’s greatest-ever result came in 2003, when under Indian head coach Sandeep Patil, it advanced to the semifinals in South Africa.
Kenya has only ever made it to one T20 World Cup, that being back in 2007.
Ever since, Kenyan cricket has declined precipitously. They have matches against Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Denmark, and Jersey in the T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers in October and the ICC Division 2 Challenge League in September.
Co-hosting the men’s T20 World Cup in 2026 will be Sri Lanka and India.
Ganesh expressed his excitement for his new position.
The former Indian cricket player said on “X” that he was “privileged to be named the head coach of the Kenya cricket team.”
The media has released a video in which Ganesh is seen chatting with top Kenyan cricket executives.
Ganesh will be assisted by former Kenyan internationals Lameck Onyango and Joseph Angara, who will be his deputies.
