Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former captain of Pakistan, has ignited a new controversy by accusing the Indian side of tampering with the ball during their T20 World Cup “Super 8s” match against Australia on Monday.
Following India’s decisive 24-run triumph against Australia at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St. Lucia, Inzamam made these statements.
The charges against the 1992 ODI World Cup champion center on the peculiar reverse swing that left-arm bowler Arshdeep Singh—who was substituted for another session in the 16th over—extracted.
Inzamam wondered how the Indian bowlers were able to accomplish reverse swing with a ball that is relatively new for the whole of an innings in a Twenty20 match. Reverse swing usually happens with an older ball.
“Arshdeep Singh was receiving reverse swing as he bowled the fifteenth (16th) over. Is reverse swing too early with a (relatively) fresh ball? By the twelfth or thirteenth over, was the ball ready for a reverse swing? Because the ball began to reverse when he went to bowl. Inzamam stated on a Pakistani TV program, “Umpires ko aankhein khuli rakhni chahiye (the umpires should keep their eyes open).”

India amassed a massive 20-over total of 205-5, mostly because to the explosive 92 off 41 balls of skipper Rohit Sharma and the quick 31 of Suryakumar Yadav. India’s innings was further strengthened by the contributions of Hardik Pandya (27 not out) and Shivam Dube (28). On a field that favoured batting, Australia’s bowlers, headed by Mitchell Starc (2-45) and Marcus Stoinis (2-56), found it difficult to control the Indian batsmen.
Australia scored 181-7 in their 20 overs while chasing 206. With 76, Travis Head led all scorers. But the Indian spinners, especially Kuldeep Yadav (2-24) and Arshdeep (3-37), held the Australian batters under control. Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah both contributed with significant wickets, which helped India stay in control of the game.
India proved once again why they are the tournament favorites with a solid all-around performance, and they advanced to the semi-finals where they will play the reigning champions, England, on Thursday at Providence Stadium in Guyana.
