On Monday, the Goa Crime Branch Police made significant progress when they arrested sixteen people who were allegedly part of an Indian Premier League cricket betting ring.
The operation came about as a result of information obtained on illegal betting enterprises, according to police reports. Following up on the information, the authorities raided a location in Porvorim, North Goa, and were able to detain the 16 accused persons.
Fifteen of the suspects in custody were from Gujarat, while one was from Uttar Pradesh.
The defendants are charged with enabling wagers via internet and mobile platforms during Sunday’s IPL cricket match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings. From the suspects’ custody, the police seized a sizable cache of goods worth a total of Rs 15 lakh, including cash equivalent to Rs 12,670, 46 cell phones, 1 tablet, 9 computers, 1 internet router, and numerous gaming electrical equipment.
In an effort to identify everyone connected to the illicit betting network, the Goa Crime Branch Police have launched additional inquiries into the case.
