Considering how the last several meetings have transpired, the next Test series between Australia and India is one of the most eagerly awaited trips in recent memory. The Border Gavaskar Trophy was last raised by Australia in 2015, and it has remained in India ever since.
The visiting Indian team has forced Australia, the current world Test champions, taste humble pie twice in a row as they have won back-to-back series down under.
India is now aiming for a hat-trick of series victories on Australian soil, but the great Ricky Ponting believes Pat Cummins and company will turn the tables, projecting a 3-1 Australian victory.
Even though the series will be fiercely contested, India great and former head coach Ravi Shastri believes Rohit Sharma’s team will win and go home with the victory.
Shastri informed the ICC that “the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia over five Test matches is going to be a humdinger.” “Keep in mind that Australia hasn’t held the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in nearly ten years, and India has defeated them twice on the last two tours. For this reason, everyone has been eagerly awaiting the match between these two titans of Test match cricket for the past five to eight years.”
“It’s going to be an incredible series, and India has a great chance of winning all three games because their bowlers are fit and they can beat Australia again if they bat well,” he continued.
The last time Australia and India faced off in a Test match was in the ICC World Test Championship final, which Australia won by 209 runs to take home the championship.
According to Shastri, Australia will be seeking retribution this time around after being tagged as the world champions.
“We are aware that Australia will seek retribution,” Shastri remarked. “They’ve been beaten there (in Australia) twice, so they’ll be thirsty and looking to get at the Indians’ throats,” he remarked.
“The assault is essentially unchanged. One of the best all-around assaults in a very long time, as well as one of the best fast bowling attacks when Nathan Lyon is included. And among the greatest in the game’s history. To help Australia win the series, they’ll be chasing those 20 wickets in every game, he continued.
Although Australia plagued India on the last trip, including when the tourists were bowled out for a historic low of 36 runs in an innings in the day-night Test in Adelaide, they still boast a powerful batting lineup.
However, India bounced back from that crushing defeat to defeat Australia 2-1.
India will bat first against the quick bowlers from Australia. Naturally, everyone would be watching to witness the Indian bowling assault, Shastri continued.
“You have Mohammed Siraj there, with (Jasprit) Bumrah fit and (Mohammed) Shami fit. In addition to having some excellent bench strength, you have players like Ravindra Jadeja and Ravin Chandrasekharan Ashwin. He said, “It’s exciting for that series to begin, and (I believe) India can win the hat-trick of series wins in Australia.
