Former Pakistan bowler Tanveer Ahmed feels Gambhir doesn’t deserve to be India’s head coach.
In Indian cricket, the Gautam Gambhir era begins with the next visit to Sri Lanka. The former opening batsman took over as India’s head coach from Rahul Dravid on July 27 and will start his tenure with the three-match Twenty20 International Series against Sri Lanka at Pallekele.
Although Gambhir has never coached before, he had a successful coaching career with the Indian Premier League’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) (IPL). Although the majority of the cricket community has praised the BCCI’s decision, former Pakistani bowler Tanveer Ahmed believes that Gambhir is not deserving of the position of head coach for India.
Tanveer mocked Gambhir’s appointment on social media, referring to it as a “Parchi Case,” which refers to obtaining a job through contacts or sources.
“VVS Laxman should have been appointed head coach of the Indian team,” said the player, who was shocked to learn that Gautham Gambhir had been appointed head coach only a short while before. He has coached the India B squad for a very long period. The nomination of Gautam Gambhir appears to be a “parchi” case, according to the former cricket player for Pakistan who participated in five Tests, two ODIs, and a T20I.
When Dravid was given a break or had other responsibilities with the main team, Laxman had toured with the Indian reserves as head coach. When India won the gold medal in the Asian Games the previous year, Laxman served as their coach.
During a recent journey to Zimbabwe with Shubman Gill & Co., the boys in blur won the Twenty20 International match against Zimbabwe 4-1. Following the 2023 ODI World Cup, he played for the Indian T20I side, who defeated Australia 4-1 at home.
