Bumrah maiden ICC World Cup trophy was awarded to him following India’s victory against South Africa in the T20 World Cup final in Barbados.
The deft pacer found his finest form and gave the Indian team and himself an unforgettable season.
Following an incredible World Cup campaign, three of India’s legends said goodbye to the Twenty20 international format.
The captain of India, Rohit Sharma, along with veteran batsman Virat Kohli and reliable all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, declared their retirement from the short format of cricket. Bumrah, nevertheless, insisted that he won’t be retiring anytime soon.
It’s quite a far away. I’ve only recently begun. “Hopefully, it has passed us by now,” Bumrah remarked at the Wankhede Stadium felicitation.
His significant contribution enabled India to snap their 13-year World Cup drought. With 15 wickets under his belt, Bumrah finished the tournament as the third-highest wicket-taker, having rocked the opposition’s batting line and conceding runs at an economy of only 4.17.
Each player’s face lit up with happiness as India was named the T20 World Cup champion. The fact that Bumrah’s son Angad was present added to the moment’s emotional impact for him.
“It seemed unbelievable. Normally, I am the one who struggles to express myself, but after seeing my kid, the feelings started to flow. I usually don’t cry after games, but after this one, I began sobbing twice, three times,” Bumrah said.
He was the only one who could assist India defeat their bitter foe Pakistan in the group stage. When the Rohit-led team was in a tight spot in the championship, Bumrah once more supported them.
Tension and aspirations were waning in the India camp when 30 runs were required from the final 30 deliveries. Bumrah was given the ball, and in the five overs he bowled two wickets, conceding only six runs and taking out Marco Jansen to turn the tide in favour of India.
