Manu Bhaker, a well-known shooter, has been officially announced as India’s flag bearer for Sunday’s Olympic closing ceremony in Paris. Bhaker made history for India on the biggest platform when she placed third in the solo 10m air pistol event, opening the Asian nation’s medal record for the Olympics 2024. When Bhaker teamed up with gunner Sarabjot Singh to win the 10m air pistol mixed team bronze, she more than quadrupled India’s total.
Manu thanked the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Monday, one day after carrying the Indian flag at the closing ceremony. Bhaker remarked on X, the previous Twitter platform, that the expert shooter is excited to fly the Indian flag in Paris with great pride. Being selected as India’s flagbearer for the Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony is an honor and a pleasure. Leading the exceptional Indian contingent while holding the tricolour in front of millions of people worldwide is an incredibly humble experience that I will always treasure, Bhaker stated.
I am honored that The IOA thought of me for this honor, and I can’t wait to fly the Indian flag with great pride. She said, “Jai Hind! 🌮🇳 #Paris2024 #Olympics #India @weareteamindia @olympics.” IOA has not selected a male flag bearer for the Summer Games’ closing ceremony. IOA is anticipated to make an announcement in the next few days, nevertheless.
Bhaker became the first athlete from Independent India to win two medals in one Olympics tournament, finishing fourth in the 25-meter pistol event.
At the Paris Games, the 22-year-old took home two bronze medals in three days. In the men’s 50-meter rifle three-positions at the Paris Games, fellow shooter Swapnil Kushale won India’s third gold following Manu’s two victories.
