In the IPL 2024, MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings triumphed against SunRisers Hyderabad by a margin of 78 runs, going back to winning ways. After losing two straight games, CSK was in a mini-slump, but Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell came out swinging as CSK scored 212 runs, stopping a rampaging SRH. SRH responded by going 134 without a hit. A few times throughout the game, MS Dhoni was spotted preparing the field. During one such incident, Dhoni gave Daryl Mitchell a slight movement instruction. Then the New Zealand great caught Travis Head off the bowling of Tushar Deshpande. Then, when Head dropped on 13 off 7 balls, the camera revealed how distraught SRH was over Kavya Maran.
After losing to Chennai Super Kings by 78 runs, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins was unhesitant to acknowledge that they need to improve in the area of mastering the chase.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, the skipper of CSK, was two runs shy of becoming the second batter in IPL history on a dry MA Chidambaram Stadium surface. Daryl Mitchell scored his first fifty of the competition as the pair led the hosts to a massive 212/3.
Due to the dew effect, SRH chose to bowl first. However, they were never able to catch up and were finally bowled out for 134 in 18.5 overs. This was their second consecutive effort at failing to bat a second innings.
In the power play, Deshpande struck three times to record an IPL-high 4-22. Other wicket-takers for CSK were Matheesha Pathirana, Mustafizur Rahman (two wickets each), Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur (one wicket each).
It’s difficult to describe. Nothing in this situation truly happened as planned. We still need to work on it since, although it feels fairly well suited for chasing, it hasn’t come off yet. We didn’t take full use of the dew that is present here—I haven’t noticed much of it elsewhere so far. In a press conference held after the game, Cummins stated, “They bowled really well, so the dew didn’t factor in as much as we would have liked.”
