Sangakkara is rumored to be leaving Rajasthan Royals to coach England’s white-ball team, with Rahul Dravid possibly returning to the IPL franchise.
The Rajasthan Royals may be undergoing a significant transition, as per a recent report from Cricbuzz, director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara may shortly depart the team to become England’s white-ball coach. The good news for Indian supporters, though, is that Rahul Dravid may have the ideal chance to rejoin the Rajasthan Royals and make a successful return. Notably, Dravid coached the team before he was called up for national service in 2022 and played for RR in the IPL.
Sangakkara has a good relationship with England Cricket managing director Rob Key, and he has a close relationship with England white-ball skipper Jos Buttler as well, according to Cricbuzz.
But in a media interview a few days prior, Sangakkara had apparently ruled out the possibility of taking over as England’s white-ball coach, saying he was content with his duties at the Rajasthan Royals. English media reported Sangakkara as stating, “Well, I know my name has been mentioned for some reason, but there hasn’t been any approach as such.” Although I believe that working with England white-ball is a fantastic opportunity, there are a lot of deserving applicants. Right now, I’m really content.
Following the resignation of the former coach, Matthew Mott, the search for the new English white ball coach commenced. Since then, former English batsman Marcus Trescothick has been appointed by the ECB to an interim role; nevertheless, the search for a permanent coach is reportedly underway.
In the meanwhile, after helping India win the T20 World Cup, Rahul Dravid will not be seen in the captain’s chair till this occasion if the report proves to be accurate.
