Before the forthcoming massive IPL auction, India’s emerging cricket star Rinku Singh has hinted at his desired destination if he is not retained by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
In an open interview with Sports Tak, Rinku disclosed that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be his first choice if KKR decide not to keep him.
With his outstanding achievements for the Kolkata Knight Riders, Rinku Singh became well-known during the 2023 Indian Premier League season. With a remarkable performance against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, when he hit five straight sixes to secure an unlikely victory, the left-handed batsman emerged as the team’s highest run scorer for the season.
Rinku made his debut for India in white-ball cricket during the Ireland series in August after an incredible IPL season. Since then, he has played in 23 T20Is and two ODIs.
Rinku, who is 26 years old, is still a vital member of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ squad and is anticipated to be kept by the team till the IPL 2025 super auction. Rinku has, however, stated that he would want to join Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the event that KKR decides to split ways with him. This shows his respect for the squad and suggests a possible future in the lucrative league.
Because of their strong relationship, Rinku Singh asked Virat Kohli for a new bat during the previous season, explaining that the one he had previously gotten had broken. Kohli wasn’t happy to hear about the damaged bat, but he finally gave in and gave Rinku a new one.
On Duleep Trophy snub
Even though he was named as a reserve for the T20 World Cup in June of this year, Rinku Singh has established himself as an important component of India’s T20I squad. His contribution to the team was evident. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar frequently emphasized how regrettable it was that Rinku’s importance and potential within the team could not be included in the starting lineup.
A number of contemporary Indian talents, including KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav, were included in the teams for the Duleep Trophy that the BCCI just revealed. Though Rinku’s name was absent here as well, the batter chooses to look on the rejection positively.
“I wasn’t very good. In reality, I didn’t participate in as many Ranji Trophy games either—I only made it to two or three—and I didn’t play well in them. I wasn’t chosen because of this. “I hope to be selected for the upcoming games.
