Regarding Virat, Sachin said that he is a “champion of the sport” and that his heroics during the tournament—during which he scored a mere 75 runs in seven innings—showcased why he is among the game’s greatest players.
“You really are a champion in this sport, @imVkohli. Even though you had a difficult start to the competition, you showed last night why you are a true legend of the gentleman’s game. I have had the experience of competing in six World Cups and winning the last one. In the lengthier game forms, I want to see you continue to win matches for India,” wrote Sachin.
In the first seven innings of the competition, Virat scored a mere 75 runs. However, he responded by scoring 76 runs in 59 balls, including six fours and two sixes, at a strike rate of 128.81. He finished the edition with 151 runs in eight innings, an average of 18.87, and a strike rate of 112.68. He also scored one fifty.
In 35 T20 World Cup matches, Virat scored 1,292 runs at an average of 58.72 and a strike rate of 128.81, with 15 half-centuries. His highest score was 89*. He is the most prolific run-scorer in the tournament’s history.
Virat scored 4,188 runs at an average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 137.04 in 125 Twenty20 International matches. He achieved a maximum score of 122*, as well as a century and 38 fifties. As the second-highest run scorer of all time, he finishes the format.
In addition, Rohit finished the tournament with a career-high 257 runs in eight games with a strike rate of over 156 and an average of 36.71 from the bat. He finished the championship with three half-centuries and his best score of 92, making him the second-highest run scorer.
Rohit, who won the T20 World Cup twice as a young, promising prodigy in 2007, is retiring.
