Right-arm quick Charlie Cassell and medium pacer Jasper Davidson have been picked up by Scotland for their inaugural bilateral men’s T20I series against Australia in Edinburgh this September. The remaining players in the squad, which Richie Berrington will lead, are the fifteen players that competed in the men’s T20 World Cup in June.
In the Cricket World Cup League 2 in July, Cassell had a spectacular start to his international career by taking 7 for 21, the highest ODI total on debut, against Oman. He has so far participated in two One-Day Internationals for Scotland and three One-Day Cup matches for Somerset.
Along with making his ODI debut, Davidson claimed four wickets in the CWC League 2 match against Oman.
“After coming into the squad at CWCL2 and doing so well, it’ll be great for Jasper and Charlie to have the experience of what it’s like playing against the best, in front of a fairly large crowd,” Doug Watson, the head coach of Scotland, stated. “Playing one of the top teams in the world is an amazing chance, and I have a good feeling that our guys won’t require much inspiration to go through this series. They get a fantastic opportunity to play with elite athletes on the pitch. They want to compete, put on some incredible shows, and really challenge this Australian squad.
“We want to win this series as our objective. It’s crucial that we win the opening game because it will set up the next two games. For the team, staff, fans, and the entire country of Scotland, the entire week will be fantastic.”
Australia will be visiting Scotland for the first time in eleven years. Only three months will separate the teams when they play again in St Lucia during the T20 World Cup 2024, where Australia prevailed in a tight contest by five wickets. September 4, 6, and 7 at The Grange are the dates of the games.
