Following their victory in the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka Cricket has announced that the women’s team would be playing two Twenty20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals in Ireland from August 11–20. On August 6, the group will leave for Ireland.
This will be Ireland’s third bilateral assignment of the year, their first at home after playing Thailand and Zimbabwe in the UAE and Zimbabwe, respectively. This will be Sri Lanka’s first bilateral trip to Ireland.
Ireland hasn’t lost a bilateral match this year, but Sri Lanka, who have won 18 of their last 23 white-ball matches, will provide a far tougher challenge. With three wins in ODIs and three victories in T20Is, Sri Lanka has an impeccable record against Ireland as well.
But this will be the first time these two teams have faced off since Sri Lanka won handily in the 2017 Women’s ODI World Cup Qualifier. They were also due to face each other during the 2021 ODI World Cup Qualifier, but that game was cancelled after the entire tournament was called off as a result of significant travel restrictions imposed on the region due to
The first of two T20Is in Dublin on August 11 will kick off the tour. The ODIs will take place in Belfast after the completion of the second Twenty20 International on August 13, which will also take place in Dublin. On August 16, the three-match ODI series that is a part of the 2022–2025 ICC Women’s Championship cycle will start.
