The former Indian batsman VVS Laxman has decided to stay on as the head of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for an additional year or more. His original three-year deal expires in September of this year.
An IPL team was interested in hiring Laxman as their head coach, but his NCA responsibilities prevent him from taking on that post at this time. His group of instructors, which includes legendary figures from Indian domestic cricket Shitanshu Kotak, Sairaj Bahutule, and Hrishikesh Kanitkar, is probably going to help him.
The extension of Laxman contract coincides with the groundbreaking of a brand-new, cutting-edge NCA campus on Bengaluru’s outskirts. The site was approved for a 99-year lease by the Karnataka government in January 2022, 14 years after the foundation for the campus was laid.
The NCA is in its final stages of construction and is expected to be operational from early next year. It is believed to have at least 100 pitches, 45 pitches indoors, three international-sized grounds, a modern rehab center, lodging facilities, and Olympic-sized pools, among a host of other amenities.
Laxman continued the procedures started by his predecessor Rahul Dravid during his first three years at the NCA. These procedures included player rehabilitation, injury management, coaching programs, and creating plans for women’s, age-group, and senior teams in cricket.
Laxman faces several hurdles, including the rebirth of India. a tour program that, in contrast to Dravid’s more regular schedule of both inward and outgoing visits, has been sporadic during the last two years.
