A moment of controversy and doubt emerged following Suryakumar Yadav’s outstanding catch to remove David Miller from the T20 World Cup Final between India and South Africa. In the 20th over, Miller hit a full toss from Hardik Pandya towards the long-off boundary. Yadav, however, appeared out of nowhere, launching himself in a spectacular dive just before the ball seemed to cross the ropes; replays revealed that the boundary cushion might have been moved slightly.
The third umpire ruled that it was a clean catch seeing the replays. Nonetheless, South African supporters shared enlarging video on social media and voiced their disagreement with the choice.
People in videos that have been going viral claim that Surya’s foot may have touched the misplaced cushion, indicating that they think it was a six rather than an out. The validity of the catch and its effect on the game were called into question by this.
Similar tweets have been making the rounds, in which users have posted zoomed-in video of the catch replay along with the statement that the catch merited many replays.
Shaun Pollock, the former captain of South Africa, intervened to provide much-needed perspective.
“The catch performed well. Although that was during the game, the cushion had shifted. It was unrelated to Surya. He did not use the pillow as a prop. Wonderful display of talent,” Pollock remarked in a video.
