India’s Hyderabad In the Indian Premier League on Thursday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 35 runs thanks to a 50-run innings by Rajat Patidar off just 20 balls.
Virat Kohli struck 51 off 43 balls and Patidar smashed five sixes in his second consecutive half-century, helping Bengaluru reach 206-7 in 20 overs.
For once, one of the weaker bowling assaults in the league held the powerful Hyderabad batting team to 171-8. Bengaluru made the decision to bat, and Faf du Plessis and Kohli put on 48 from 23 balls to give them a solid start.
As the top scorer of the season, Kohli maintained his impressive run, scoring 32 runs off of 18 balls during the power play. Only 18 runs were scored off the following 19 deliveries as he began to slow down. With a blistering blow to Hyderabad’s bowling, Patidar made up for lost time. Before being caught in the deep by Jaydev Unadkat, he smashed four sixes in an over off spinner Mayank Markande.
Additionally, Unadkat sent Kohli back before he could become too wild. After that, Bengaluru was down 140–4, but Cameron Green came to the rescue with a quick 37 off 20 balls, taking the total beyond 200. Despite failing to get going on the day, Sunrisers’ openers have lit up the IPL with their powerful hitting in the power-play overs.
Travis Head, an Australian, was out for just one run after being nabbed by Will Jacks. Although he scored 31 off 13 balls in his first over with his partner Abhishek Sharma, he was caught behind in the fourth over.
Then, Bengaluru’s spinners destroyed Hyderabad’s top order. Hard-hitting Heinrich Klaasen was out for the same total, while Aiden Markram went out for seven. Left arm spinner Swapnil Singh, who finished with 2-40 in three overs, got both of them out.
Between, wrist spinner Karn Sharma removed Abdul Samad and bowled Nitish Reddy for 13, taking the hosts to 89-6 in 9.1 overs.
After the early collapse, Shahbaz Ahmed persevered and scored 40 not out off 37 balls, while captain Pat Cummins also scored 31 off 15 balls. However, it was insufficient.
Hyderabad maintained its third-place standing, sharing 10 points with the Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders, but sitting between them in terms of net run-rate.
