June 2 is the scheduled date of the T20 World Cup, which will take place in the USA and the West Indies. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli leading the way, all eyes will be on Team India once more. India will be looking to snap their trophy drought, having not won an ICC championship since 2013.
They fell to Australia in the final of the home-based ODI World Cup last year, but they were very close. The selection committee selected a formidable team for the T20 World Cup, with a few unexpected omissions.
Former New Zealand player Simon Doull identified a serious weakness in the Indian team while speaking on Cricbuzz. “That’s one thing that India has severely lacked. In T20 cricket, players in their top five or six who are capable of bowling a few bowlers,” he said.
After the T20 World Cup
After the T20 World Cup, Doull also made a very important forecast for the Indian team. If you remove what we believe to be removed from the team that is heading to the Caribbean and the competition, you suddenly have Abhishek and Ruturaj at the top, or Jaiswal or Shubman, or anybody you wish. I believe that SKY is a local. However, Shivam Dube remains, and you may have two or three bowlers in that top five who can bowl two or three overs. Then, it becomes important, allowing you to bat deeper and select four true bowlers in addition to having two or three good all-rounders, two of whom are in your top five.
Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan have been picked as reserves in the T20 World Cup team. Alongside Kuldeep Yadav as one of the two spin specialists, Yuzvendra Chahal has made a comeback. Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel have been named as all-rounders, while Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, and Jasprit Umrah make up the pace battery.
The wicketkeepers are Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant, while the specialist batsmen are Rohit, Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shivam Dube.
