Ace Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik declared his retirement from all forms of cricket on June 1, just a few days after declaring his retirement from the Indian Premier League. On May 22, he made his IPL 2024 Eliminator debut for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
“I have been overwhelmed by the affection, support and love I have received in the past few days,” Karthik stated in the message. To all the fans who have helped make this emotion possible, I sincerely apologize and extend my heartfelt appreciation.”
“After giving it a lot of thought, I have decided to move on from playing representative cricket,” he continued. I hereby declare my retirement and put my playing days in the past as I prepare for the upcoming challenges.”
Karthik right-handed wicketkeeper batsman thanked his coaches, captains, selectors, teammates, and support personnel in the letter for making his arduous path fun.
“Among the millions that play the sport in our country, I consider myself among the lucky few to have had the chance to represent the nation, and luckier still to have earned the goodwill of so many fans and friends.”
In addition, Karthik thanked his parents for being the rock of stability and support for him throughout the years. He also expressed gratitude to his wife Dipika Pallikal, a top squash player from India, for delaying her career so that they could go on walks together.
“Obviously, a huge thank you to all of the admirers and followers of our fantastic game! Without your encouragement and well wishes, cricket and players wouldn’t be the same,” he said.

In Tests: Between 2004-2018, DK played 26 Tests, scored 1025 runs at an average of 25. His highest was 129 runs and scored 1 century.
In ODIs: Between 2014-2019, DK played 94 ODIs for India, where he scored 1752 runs at an average of 39. His highest score is 79.
In T20s: Between 2006-2022, DK played 60 T20Is for India and scored 686 runs and his highest was 55 runs. His average was 26.38.
