The lineup that head selector Ajit Agarkar and his staff have chosen for the forthcoming T20 World Cup has been praised by former cricket player Mohammad Kaif. After the unveiling of the preliminary roster, which saw the exclusion of a few well-known players and the inclusion of some bright young players, Kaif made his comments.
“Isse achchi team Ajit Agarkar nahi bana sakte the [Ajit Agarkar could not have made a better team than this],” Kaif said, expressing his assurance in the versatility and strength of the group.
He emphasized the variety of bowlers in particular, pointing out that the bowling unit was strong since it included four fast bowlers and four spinners.
“A really potent group has been chosen. Four quick bowlers and four spinners make for a fairly balanced team. Three all-rounders—Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Hardik Pandya—are among the eight bowlers. I won’t disclose Shivam Dube’s name, but he bowls as well,” Kaif said on Star Sports.
Kaif’s analysis focused on the opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, delving into the batting order. “Jaiswal plays aggressive cricket and always offers a start. There won’t be any dew factor when playing day matches in the US and the West Indies, so you’ll need to play aggressively and attack during the powerplay. He said, “Jaiswal always plays aggressive cricket, and Rohit Sharma also gives aggressive starts,” emphasizing the need of aggressive batting, particularly in games when there is no dew effect.
Speaking about the middle order, Kaif debated between Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant, eventually opting for Samson because of his stellar track record in West Indies conditions. He also applauded the choice of all-rounders Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel because of their adaptability and capacity to bat at any position in the order.
Kaif also praised Shivam Dube’s inclusion over Rinku Singh, pointing out Dube’s ability to contribute with the bat and the ball. “You can also give an over or two to Dube, so they have taken him, it’s a good choice,” he said, emphasizing the tactical significance of Dube’s selection.
Kaif expressed happiness with Agarkar’s choices and reaffirmed his belief in the squad’s potential. With his support, the excitement around India’s T20 World Cup campaign, which is set to begin in June, grows.
