An incredible event took place at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium during a game between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Star all-arounder Ravindra Jadeja of CSK became just the third player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to be removed for blocking play.
Being one of the few players ever to be ejected for blocking the field, Jadeja now stands with Yusuf Pathan and Amit Mishra on an elite list in IPL history.
Jadeja got a single after guiding a ball from Avesh Khan of RR towards third man in the match’s pivotal 16th over. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of CSK and his teammate, hesitated when he tried a second run, but he still tried.
The ball was sent towards the non-striker’s end by RR captain and wicketkeeper Sanju Samson in an effort to run out Jadeja as she dashed halfway down the pitch, but it smacked the all-round player in the back.
Samson was furious and quickly appealed for blocking the field, which caused the umpires to look into the matter.
The third umpire reviewed the play and saw that Jadeja had purposefully blocked the field by altering his running route in order to avoid getting run out.
The decision, OUT, which indicated Jadeja’s dismissal, was projected on the enormous screen. With a dejected expression, Jadeja headed back towards the pavilion.
