Wasim Akram, a former captain of Pakistan, shared his thoughts on the current situation, stating that Kohli ought to have held back on his remarks.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) seems to be engulfed in a dispute about Virat Kohli’s strike rate, with several experts offering their opinions. When the star batsman expressed his opinion on what “people inside the box” thought of his batting, the great Sunil Gavaskar responded angrily. The legendary Indian batsman took a swipe at Kohli, asking why the batter was disturbed by the “noise” if he was saying it didn’t bother him. Gavaskar went on to say that pundits have a right to challenge or declare as settled whatever they want to observe.
Due to the two’s verbal sparring, there was a huge commotion on social media, as followers of Kohli started making derogatory remarks against Gavaskar. Wasim Akram, a former captain of Pakistan, has voiced his thoughts on the current incident.
They’re both excellent. I know Sunny bhai both as a cricket player and as a person off the field. He has been a pundit for, well, God knows how long—possibly over twenty-five years. And now for the great man himself, Virat Kohli. He is a modern-day legend and a top player. Considering the sort of performances he has produced, he is truly one of history’s greatest ever. Virat shouldn’t have said that, in my opinion, though,” Akram told SportsKeeda.
It is the duty of the commentators. Put it out of his mind if Gavaskar mentioned something after he slowed down in a few matches. That is not the type of guy Virat is. Both are greats and glad to be Indian. It’s alright, they will both settle down very soon. You shouldn’t expect either to take it personally. I know they will be alright. I’m telling you right now. I am pretty familiar with both of them,” he said.
With 542 runs in 11 matches, including four fifty-fives and a century, Kohli leads the Orange Cap standings despite the continuous discussion on his strike rate. For the first time since 2016, he has eclipsed the 500-run threshold for the second season in a row.
