Matt Henry, a fast bowler for the Lucknow Super Giants, has been included in New Zealand’s 15-man roster for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be held in the United States and the Caribbean in June.
The 32-year-old, who replaced England’s David Willey with LSG this season, will be making his T20 World Cup debut. He has represented New Zealand in the ODI World Cups in 2019 and 2023.
For the Black Caps in 17 Twenty20 Internationals, Henry has claimed 20 wickets at an economy rate of slightly over eight runs per over. In 134 T20 matches over his career, Henry has taken 152 wickets with a comparable economy.
Henry, who is renowned for his quickness and precision, has a track record of succeeding in matches with a lot of pressure.
Henry contributed significantly to leading New Zealand to the 2019 ODI World Cup final with 14 wickets. In the semi-finals, he outperformed hot favourites India with a Man of the Match display.
Henry was the leading wicket-taker in the two-match Test series he played at home against Australia earlier this year, taking 17 wickets.
With 11 wickets at an average of 28.63 in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, he was also the third-highest wicket-taker for New Zealand.
Henry has our best wishes for the upcoming T20 World Cup!
