During Friday’s (April 19) IPL 2024 match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow, MS Dhoni set a new world record. The 42-year-old cricket player made history by being the first wicketkeeper-batter to amass 5,000 runs in an IPL season. With 28 runs from nine balls versus LSG, he was still undefeated.
At the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday, April 19, during the IPL 2024 match between the Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants, MS Dhoni made history. In the IPL, the 42-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman became the first cricketer in history to hit 5,000 runs. During his 28-run innings against LSG in CSK’s seventh league stage game of the current IPL 2024 season, the former Indian skipper reached the milestone. The iconic cricket player faced nine balls during his time at the crease, smashing three of them for four and two sixes.
His effort allowed CSK to score 176 runs at the expense of six wickets in 20 overs, but ultimately it proved insufficient as the hosts managed to chase it down for the loss of only two wickets in 19 overs. With eight points from seven games played in the IPL 2024, CSK is in third position in the points table after their eight-wicket loss to LSG. This was CSK’s third defeat in seven matches overall.
Whatever the outcome of the game, the focus of the evening in Lucknow was MS Dhoni, and the legendary cricket player did not let his supporters down. Big smashes by Dhoni delighted the crowd in what was probably his first and last game at Ekana Stadium. On the second delivery of the 19th over, he walked over the stumps to smash one creative six. On the third ball of the last over of the innings, delivered by Yash Thakur, he smoked another six measuring 101 metres.
