The Mumbai Indians (MI), who lost to Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday for their fifth straight loss, may not be having the best season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, but supporters of former MI captain Rohit Sharma had an opportunity to meet their idol when the MI team bus got caught in Jaipur traffic after the game.
Trent Boult, a bowler for RR, dismissed Rohit for six runs, meaning he didn’t have a memorable match.
Despite Sandeep Sharma’s five-wicket performance (5 for 18), MI could only muster a competitive 179 for 9 thanks to Tilak Verma’s 65 off 45 balls and Nehal Wadhera’s 24-ball 49.
However, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opener for RR, embarrassed the run chase by hitting a century off just 60 balls, which included seven sixes and nine fours. Sanju Samson, the captain, was still undefeated at 38 off 28 balls. RR only lost one wicket, Jos Buttler (35).
Following the match, the MI team’s bus appeared to be caught in Jaipur traffic as it was making its way from Sawai Mansingh Stadium to the team hotel. As a result, a few fortunate fans were able to get up close and personal with India captain Rohit, who was sitting by a window.
The Royals advanced to the postseason with their seventh victory in eight games, giving them a 14-point lead in the standings, while MI suffered their fifth defeat in eight games.
It was also Rajasthan’s final game in front of Jaipur’s home crowd. Their next game is now scheduled for April 27 against the Lucknow Super Giants, while MI will travel to Delhi to play the Capitals on the same day.
