After scoring 192/7 while batting first, Mumbai Indians appeared to have blown Punjab Kings out of the game in the first ten overs of the latter’s innings. With Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee claiming four wickets each in their opening two overs, PBKS lost their top five in the first ten overs. The Punjab Kings, seven down, were able to mount a comeback because to a mix of Ashutosh Sharma’s skill and some odd MI tactics, which were initiated by Shashank Singh. But Ashutosh went at 61 off 28, and with one wicket remaining, PBKS needed to win off the last over with 12 runs. The match was terminated by a run out off the second ball of the last over and MI won by 9 over.
Earlier, when batting first, Suryakumar Yadav hit 78 off 53 balls and the Mumbai Indians scored 192/7 in 20 overs. For the second wicket, SKY and Rohit Sharma put up an 81-run partnership in only 57 balls. After that, he and Tilak Varma combined for 49 runs off of 28 balls. Tilak remained undefeated with 34 off 18, but Rohit lost with 36 off 25. Shikhar Dhawan was not available, therefore Sam Curran captained the Punjab Kings.
