As the cricket world prepares for the forthcoming T20 World Cup, which begins in the USA and West Indies on June 2, conversations amongst former players and commentators frequently center on who will perform best in the competition. Virat Kohli, the former captain of India, is always at the top of the list of players predicted to dominate the run-scoring rankings and take center stage.
Remarkably, Australian wicket-keeper icon Adam Gilchrist has provided an unexpected viewpoint on the subject. Disregarding the general consensus about Kohli’s expected triumph, Gilchrist has selected David Warner to emerge as the tournament’s top run scorer.
Adam Gilchrist said on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast that the World Cup-winning Australian opener will have one last dance before retiring. Virat Kohli is expected to hit the most runs in the tournament, according to a prediction made by former England captain Michael Vaughan on the same podcast.
Gilchrist selected Kuldeep Yadav as the man most likely to finish as the tournament’s top wicket-taker, while Vaughan went with Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa.
As the first Indian to have won the Orange Cap for the most runs in a season twice, Kohli concluded the Indian Premier League season 2024 with this distinction.
In 15 games, Kohli amassed 741 runs at an average of 61.75, including five fifty-scores and a century. With a strike rate of 154.69, which was the highest for Virat in an IPL season, he achieved his top score of 113*.
In addition, he hit 38 sixes this season, tying his record for most in a single season with 38 sixes in 2016 when he amassed 973 runs in 16 games with four tons and seven fifties.
