After three heartbreaking IPL losses under Hardik Pandya, former Indian batter Manoj Tiwary thinks the Mumbai Indians should return the captaincy to Rohit Sharma.
Indians in Mumbai are in disarray. Once again. Although they have never been the best starts, something seems strangely amiss this year. It’s not been easy for Hardik Pandya to lead. The all-rounder seems to be everywhere, regardless of the result of games or animosity from the audience. Prior to winning the title in 2015, MI lost their first four games of the season. The year before, they dropped their first six games in a row before making it to the playoffs. MI has had worse beginnings in the past. However, that was during Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. With Hardik Pandya leading the way and absolutely no backing from the fans, MI have a difficult journey ahead of them.

After losing their last three games, MI will have a six-day break before playing Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede on April 7. Manoj Tiwary anticipates that the team would have to make the difficult decision to reappoint Rohit as captain in the meantime. The former Indian batsman made his forecast because he thought Hardik was obviously undercutting. Even while he seems happy, the reality that he didn’t bowl at all against the Rajasthan Royals suggests that his happiness is mostly superficial.
On December 15, following Hardik’s comeback to MI the previous year, the team shockingly announced that Rohit was no longer captain. Tiwary believes that replacing a leader of Rohit’s caliber and track record with Abhimanyu Easwaran has its own ramifications. He had gone through something similar himself when he was named captain of the Bengal Ranji squad in 2019.

It’s a sign that Hardik is facing difficulties. Given that he bowled in the first two games and that there was swing available in both the first and second innings, I believe he felt pressured by the sort of reaction he was given. I have a major item to say. I feel that Hardik Pandya could hand the captaincy back to Rohit Sharma during this break,” Tiwary stated on Cricbuzz.
“It is possible. This is a significant call since, from what I gather, the owners and franchises don’t hesitate to answer calls. When they handed Hardik the captaincy after removing Rohit’s, they had kicked it off. Changing a captain who has led your team to five titles is now a significant event. Additionally, the skipper appears jaded now that they haven’t won a single game. Errors are occurring.
