The Delhi Capitals ended their IPL league stage with seven victories in 14 games, but legendary Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly believes that Rishabh Pant is an instinctive leader and that it takes him some time to improve. Pant made his comeback to professional cricket in the IPL after missing the previous season while healing from various injuries he received in a terrifying vehicle accident. Once again, the wicketkeeper batter assumed leadership duties, but the squad was unable to muster the necessary team spirit on the field.
Additionally, it took them some time to figure out the best lineup after disappointing performances by international players David Warner and Anrich Nortje.
Ganguly, meanwhile, praised Pant’s return to the IPL and emphasized the value of Indian players to the team.
Pant is a rookie captain, so patience will be rewarded. We had our worries during the off-season, but the way he recovered from an injury to play a whole season,” Ganguly said to JioCinema. “Indian players are essential, particularly now that there are ten clubs in the IPL. That he was able to perform so well for the entire season makes me extremely delighted for him. I hope everything goes well for him in the future,” Ganguly continued.
Speaking further on Pant’s leadership, Ganguly proposed that all captains require time to develop. Pant is someone who mostly trusts his gut, and things can only go better from here.
He’ll improve as a captain with time. He is an instinctive captain, making choices on the fly, but no one is a great captain from the start. He’ll improve with time,” he continued.
The development of Rasikh Dar Salam this season and Mukesh Kumar’s consistency with the ball for the team were highlighted by the Capitals Director of Cricket.
You have witnessed Rasikh’s evolution over time. He improved with each match he played. On the Delhi surface, bowling is not a simple task. Because of the wonderful wicket and little pitch, I believe it is difficult for any bowler to bowl here. Rasikh has come a long way. Our top bowler so far this season has been Mukesh. Whether it’s the opening or last over, he bowls all the tough overs. This season, there hasn’t been a single game where his bowling was necessary in the closing moments. He has continuously performed in that area since we understood that giving up sixes would result in additional defeats. This season, our Indian bowlers have excelled,” he continued.
