At the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, Sanju Samson had an unambiguous chance on Saturday, June 1, to show off his bat skills for India against Bangladesh in their T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up match.
With a big knock against the neighbors, Samson might have easily guaranteed a spot in the starting XI for the forthcoming contests, given Virat Kohli was unavailable because of his delayed arrival in the USA. He did not, however, make an impression, hitting just one run off of five balls in the second over of India’s innings before being leg-before caught by Shoriful Islam.
Samson arrived to begin the innings with skipper Rohit Sharma, a role that Kohli may fill in the esteemed competition this time around. The captain of the Rajasthan Royals never seemed at ease at the crease until he was outwitted by a pitch that bounced back.
As soon as the ball struck his pad, on-field umpire Paul Reiffel raised his finger in response to the LBW plea.
During the warm-ups, Samson, who isn’t having the best time in his international career, playfully indicated DRS, although knowing that it wasn’t available. The replay showed the ball would have kissed the leg stump, therefore it would not have saved him otherwise.
