Pant and the umpire got into a heated argument that resulted in the Delhi Capitals calling for a review, demonstrating Pant’s discontent with the ruling. Replays showed that the delivery was wide, which caused uncertainty, but Pant persisted in criticizing the umpire.
At first, analysts conjectured that Pant could have been reluctant to accept the review; nevertheless, further replays revealed the wicketkeeper gesturing for the referral. It was alleged by former India captain Sunil Gavaskar that Pant could have been indicating to a fielder that he needed assistance on whether to review.
But ex-cricketers Pommie Mbangwa and Deep Dasgupta provided clarification, saying that Pant was upset that the snickometer was not being used to see whether there was an advantage. Pant’s movements toward the umpire while holding his gloves up to his ears suggested that he thought the bat had made a sound.
Despite the controversy, it was clarified that the on-field umpire’s decision was upheld, resulting in Delhi Capitals losing the review.
The drama on the field mirrored the intensity of the competition, showcasing the unpredictable nature of cricket and keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.
