Mitchell Marsh, Australia’s captain, has explained why young Jake Fraser-McGurk, who dominated the IPL, was not selected for the T20 World Cup team.
In the six games played for DC, the young Aussie has already racked up 259 runs at an average of 43.16 and a strike rate of 233.33 in IPL 2024. (BCCI)
The young opening batting season from Delhi Capitals, Jake Fraser McGurk, has been the subject of questions since it was announced that Mitchell Marsh will lead the Australian squad that will play in the T20 World Cup 2024. McGurk was left out of the 15-man Australian squad.
With three half-centuries so far in the present Indian Premier League (IPL), Fraser-McGurk has been in outstanding form for the Delhi Capitals. Many think the right-hander has shown well enough to be included in the Caribbean and USA’s T20 World Cup, which begins on June 1.
“Jakey has exceptional talent.” Marsh said on Australian radio station SEN, “I think you know how he’s taking the IPL by storm; they’re all loving him, and definitely the Delhi crew are enjoying his company and what he brings to the team. There’s no doubt that he’s going to have a huge future, wherever he plays.”
Fraser-McGurk, a 22-year-old who has cleared the rope 23 times in six innings for DC to rank sixth overall in most maximums in the tournament, has scored 259 runs in the IPL 2024 thus far.
Jake Fraser-McGurk was left off of the 15-man T20 World Cup roster, but Mitchell Marsh, the recently chosen captain of the Twenty20 International team, has explained why. According to him, Australia’s team has “all bases covered,” and Travis Head and David Warner, the current openers, have shown remarkable improvement over the past 18 months, making them the team’s first choice for the major event.
However, we believe that everyone on our team is insured. We have benefited greatly from Heady and David Warner’s contributions over the previous 18 months as we have prepared for this (the T20) World Cup. We feel confident that we have the starting lineup to, hopefully, go far in the (T20) World Cup,” he remarked.
When asked if he thought Fraser-McGurk would advocate for Australia’s white-ball teams right away following the World Cup, Marsh responded, “Oh, yeah, without a doubt.”
He has advanced rather swiftly. Numerous gifted people have been recognized from an early age. This year’s Big Bash gave us a peek of it, and as you are aware, the Indian Premier League is a difficult competition.
“You can’t go backward, and that’s how he plays cricket, for sure. His future is promising,” he continued.
