Among the most notable absences from the BCCI’s T20 World Cup roster announced on Tuesday was KL Rahul. The seasoned batter-wicketer was left off of the reserves list for the major tournament. Rahul was disregarded even though he was the IPL 2024 captain and the first wicketkeeper-batter to reach 400 runs. Riteish Deshmukh, a well-known Bollywood actor, offered Rahul support after the decision. He posted on X: “KL Rahul should have been there in the #T20WorldCup squad.”
On Tuesday, Rahul’s squad, LSG, defeated MI. In the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Lucknow Super Giants defeated Mumbai Indians four wickets on Tuesday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium thanks to another victory saved by Marcus Stoinis. After a difficult first over and a breakdown of the middle order, Stoinis made a crucial knock that guaranteed the victory for the home team.
In his IPL debut, Arshin Kulkarni was out for a golden duck in the first over while chasing 145. In the lucrative league, Nuwan Thushara claimed his first wicket with a scythe.
In an attempt to help the team bounce back from the early setback, Marcus Stoinis and captain KL Rahul kept Jasprit Bumrah quiet during the powerplay.
They were able to cover a significant portion of the 145-run chase thanks to a well-crafted 58-run stand. Before being removed by his opponent Hardik Panday after scoring 28 runs, Rahul appeared to be in excellent form.
From one end, Stoinis (62) led the way with the bat and then Mohammad Nabi used his expertise to finish Australia’s innings at the crease.
Ashton Turner and Ashton Turner left LSG shortly after, but Nicholas Pooran persevered to give the hosts the win.
With 12 points from 10 games, LSG moved up to third place with this, their sixth home victory. With six points from 12 games, MI maintained its ninth place ranking.
Mohsin Khan took two wickets for LSG earlier in the innings, while Marcus Stoinis, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mayank Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi each claimed one. To propel Mumbai to a competitive total, Wadhera produced a resolute 46, Ishan Kishan played a vital knock of 32, and Tim David scorched 35 runs in 18 balls.
Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first, and in the second over, he was removed from the field early thanks to a spectacular catch made by Marcus Stoinis off a ball from Mohsin Khan.
As Stoinis took a major wicket of Suryakumar Yadav, LSG continued their winning streak and further dashed MI’s chances of reaching a high powerplay total. After completing a spectacular direct hit in the third over, Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Tilak Varma.
Hardik Pandya, the captain of MI, had a difficult IPL 2024 season, so being fired just after the T20 World Cup roster was announced was the last thing he needed. Naveen-ul-Haq, an LSG bowler, absolutely deceived Pandya, and KL Rahul produced a fine catch behind the wickets.
Nehal Wadhera and Ishan Kishan, with their sporadic boundaries, kept MI’s hopes alive after Mumbai lost four wickets and scored just 28 runs in the powerplay.
Kishan was granted a lifeline in the ninth over when Ashton Turner lost his catch on the eighth. After losing four wickets in the powerplay, MI never recovered, despite Wadhera and Kishan’s attempts to go for the big smashes.
After dismissing Kishan for thirty-two, Ravi Bishnoi claimed his first wicket of the evening. Wadhera amassed 16 runs in the fifteenth over after hitting pacer Mayank Yadav for two maximums and one boundary. Mumbai passed the 100-run milestone thanks to the batsman Wadhera, who maintained the MI’s run flow.
After reaching forty-six runs, Wadhera returned to the pavilion as a result of a smirking yorker from Mohsin. Mayank Yadav joined the party of wicket-takers in the 19th over, dismissing new batsman Mohammad Nabi for a single run. Mayank left the field before completing his over after taking his maiden wicket. Tim David scorched Mohsin for 17 runs in the last over.
