If the Real Madrid forward/guard can help Spain qualify this summer, he hopes to finish at the Olympics in Paris.
Rudy Fernandez, the basketball player from Spain with the most caps, said on Thursday that he will complete his brilliant career by retiring at the end of the current campaign.
If the Real Madrid forward/guard can help Spain qualify this summer, he hopes to finish at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
At a press conference on his 39th birthday, Fernandez said, “The word retirement is difficult to say, but I’ve reached a certain age and I’m starting to think about other things, about my family.”
“I hope to be able to contribute as much as I can in the few months I have left,” he stated.

When it comes to basketball in Europe, Fernandez, who started his career with Badalona 20 years ago, has one of the best records: two World Cups, four European championships, two Olympic silver medals with Spain, six Spanish titles, and three EuroLeagues with Real Madrid.
A significant member of La Roja’s golden age alongside the Gasol siblings and former Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ricky Rubio, Fernandez was an outstanding three-point shooter.
After playing in the 2004 Games in Athens, Fernandez made 250 appearances for his nation and claimed he made a vow to his late father that the Olympics in Paris would be his last competition.
“I still have to play in another Olympic Games, which is a dream my father had for me,” he declared.
