Pakistan will be opening their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against co-hosts USA on Thursday in Tex.
Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign will begin on Thursday in Texas against the co-host nation, the United States. The 2022 runners-up, who were recently eliminated from the T20I series by England, will be entering this match with a 2-0 deficit. Even if they played a terrible match against England, Babar Azam and company are still very much favorites to win the T20 World Cup. But Ian Bishop, a West Indies great, has advised the 2009 winners to “change template” in order to improve on their showing.
Pakistan started Mohammad Rizwan and young batter Saim Ayub as openers during the series against England. Bishop said that Pakistan could start fresh players as their openers rather than sticking with the usual duo of Babar and Rizwan.
“If you’re asking me what I want versus what will happen to Pakistan, I’ll tell you that I need and hope that guys like Saim Ayub, who I know isn’t in the picture right now but is still a young man, will come through in the future. I don’t know if it will happen immediately. They departed, I believe, to play T-20 cricket at home. On Star Sports, Bishop stated, “But these guys are still very young and living the way.”
“After what Babar and Rizwan went through, they’ll definitely return there. However, once more, it is a pattern that needs to be altered with those two guys, who I believe will play in a World Cup based on what we have seen in T20 cricket.
Azam Khan, the wicketkeeper-batter for Pakistan, has also been the target of criticism from supporters and former teammates due to his subpar performance in the just finished Twenty20 International Series against England.
In the two games he participated in, Azam only managed 11 runs, and his glove technique was also suspect as he missed a couple simple catches.
Following the USA, Pakistan’s second Group A encounter will take place in New York on Sunday against their bitter rivals, India.
