The ICC T20 World Cup, which will take place in the USA and the West Indies starting on June 1, has announced the jerseys that New Zealand and South Africa will be wearing.
The jersey, which has a color pattern evocative of their jerseys from the 1990s, was unveiled on Monday by the official account of New Zealand Cricket (NZC). “2024 @T20WorldCup team uniform” available starting tomorrow at the NZC shop.
The jersey was seen on several players, including Tim Southee, Mark Chapman, James Neesham, and Ish Sodhi. The greatest result for New Zealand in the T20 World Cup was making it to the final in the UAE-hosted 2021 tournament, when they lost to Australia.
New Zealand is drawn into Group C in the forthcoming competition, together with Uganda, Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan, and the West Indies. On June 7, they are set to play their first game against Afghanistan.
South Africa also revealed their jersey on Sunday; it is mostly yellow with the national flag’s colors on the shoulders. The shirt has a large display of the national flower of South Africa, the King Protea.
In the last T20 World Cup, South Africa was eliminated from the competition after an unexpected loss to the Netherlands prevented them from making it to the quarterfinals. South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, and Nepal are in Group D of the next edition. On June 3, they will play their opening match against Sri Lanka.
The tournament roster for New Zealand has also been revealed, and Kane Williamson is expected to be the team’s captain.
New Zealand Squad:
Kane Williamson (C), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee.
