Navjot Singh Sidhu, in his own style, shut down the strike-rate debate surrounding Virat Kohli’s potential T20 World Cup 2024 selection.
Virat Kohli’s strike-rate has been a big subject of debate among fans and experts
Legendary player Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) did not hold back when he attacked people who were criticizing his strike rate and lack of ability to get going against spinners in the middle overs. After Bengaluru’s victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) in Sunday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match, Kohli took to the mike and started to attack. After hitting a 44-ball 70, Kohli angrily criticized the “experts” who were sitting in the commentary box. Following the game, Kohli received support from veteran all-rounder Navjot Singh Sidhu of India.
Sidhu, who has been covering the IPL 2024 on Star Sports as a commentator, blasted people who were criticizing Virat because of his strikeout percentage. The former cricket player-turned-commentator emphasized how Kohli’s remarkable career and game mechanics have shaped him into the player he is today.
“Many believe Kohli to be God. He will play like a human as he is a human. Instead than picking faults, how about we examine the man’s eighty centuries? That is both his strength and his weakness—none. And he lofted the spinners today, playing off the back foot, if you look closely. How many people can do that, please?
How many people can hit a left-arm spinner against the spin? Hence, Kohli is a presence and he values his wicket as well. What more is expected of him?” stated Sidhu.
Mohammad Kaif, a former cricketer for India, has always defended Kohli from those who criticize his strike rate. He once addressed the conversation on strike rate.

“Strike-rate is all I hear about these days. Kohli is the target of people’s attention. Boss, you need to slow down between overs 7 and 15. Compared to quick bowlers, spinners have a lower economy rate. Why? since they bowl the intermediate overs,” Kaif said.
Bengaluru maintained their hopes of making the playoffs with their victory against Gujarat.
