After making a cameo against Lucknow Super Giants in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, MS Dhoni was benched for the final three overs rather than being moved up in the batting order. This was explained by head coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Stephen Fleming. With two overs remaining after being assigned to bat, Dhoni appeared at the crease, bringing CSK down to 142/6. Dhoni easily raced to 28 runs in only nine deliveries as he replicated the feat against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium in the following twelve deliveries.
Due to Dhoni’s IPL success, supporters are requesting that the former captain of CSK be moved up in the batting order.
Fleming did disclose, meanwhile, that Dhoni is still recuperating from knee problems for which he had surgery following the end of the IPL season last year.
“The team is not surprised by what he is doing; his batting this season, even in the nets, has been very crisp. It is inspirational.” He was really skilled during the preseason. There are just a few balls that he can use well since in previous years he had a knee issue from which he is currently healing. At the press conference following the game, Fleming stated, “I think everyone wants to see him for longer as we do, but that amount of time is right; we need him for the tournament.”

With three fours and two massive sixes, Dhoni caused a wave of yellow to explode in the stands, punishing the LSG pace combo of Yash Thakur and Mohsin Khan.
Every hit that came off Dhoni’s bat was met with cheers from the crowd, which exploded when CSK reached a competitive total of 176/6.
The rest of the batting team needs to put us in a position where he can push us over the top, and he is doing that pretty much every time right now. It is fantastic to watch, and it creates such an amazing atmosphere when he performs. “That 2-3 over cameo, he is owning that space.” We marvel at the amount of affection he receives and are immensely proud of what he has accomplished. He is essentially the lifeblood of our group, and we are really delighted to have him on board,” Fleming continued.
Recalling the game, CSK reached 176/6 thanks to Dhoni’s cameo and Ravindra Jadeja’s undefeated 57.
In response, the opening partnership between captain KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, which produced 134 runs, guaranteed the hosts an 8-wicket win.
