At Monday’s IPL match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals at the storied Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Bollywood star and co-owner of the team Shah Rukh Khan enjoyed a memorable moment with former India captain Sourav Ganguly.
Now the director of cricket for Delhi Capitals, Ganguly was a key member of KKR’s 2008 Indian Premier League team as their top player and first captain.
The much-awaited meeting was made much more sentimental by Khan and Ganguly’s bittersweet reunion.
KKR won the game, defeating Delhi Capitals by a margin of seven wickets. With six wins from nine games, KKR is now second on the points table, which strengthened their position in the IPL rankings. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, are now in sixth place after five victories in 11 games.
The actual game included several exciting moments, but Phil Salt’s aggressive 68-run innings and Varun Chakravarthy’s outstanding 3-16 bowling stats stole the show. At the ancient Eden Gardens, in sweltering heat, KKR’s disciplined bowling performance was led by Chakravarthy’s skill as a mystery spinner, who held Delhi Capitals to 153/9.
To the joy of the ardent spectators, Salt and Sunil Narine’s combination set the tone for KKR’s victorious chase, as they reached the mark with 3.3 overs remaining while the players struggled against the extreme heat.
Players from every IPL club are keen to leave a lasting impression on their respective national selections as the T20 World Cup approaches. Salt’s excellent form highlights how important IPL results are in determining international selections.
Moments of friendship, nostalgia, and thrilling cricketing action keep enthralling viewers across the world as the IPL season progresses, solidifying the league’s position as one of the world’s greatest cricketing spectacles.
