Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals, commended quick bowler Sandeep Sharma’s efforts following their 36-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2. With accurate swinging deliveries, Sharma removed Heinrich Klaasen and Travis Head from the game. Samson hailed Sharma as the “next guy” to follow Jasprit Bumrah, the best fast bowler in India.
Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals, praised bowler Sandeep Sharma’s outstanding performance after the team’s devastating 36-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2, which ended their chances of making it to the IPL 2024 final.
On a night where spinners prevailed, Sandeep’s accurate swinging deliveries stood out despite the Royals’ general troubles. With statistics of 2/25 in his four overs, the 31-year-old quick had an outstanding session, taking the wickets of Heinrich Klaasen and Travis Head, the power-hitting combo of SRH.
Sandeep was hailed by Samson, who has been closely monitoring his development this season, as the “next guy” to emerge from India after Jasprit Bumrah, the country’s best fast bowler.
“I’m delighted for him. by returning as a replacement after not being selected in the auctions. He delivered in the manner that he bowled. Based on his performance in the past two years, Sandeep Sharma is projected to be Bumrah’s successor. “He’s done an amazing job,” Samson said after the game.
This season, Sandeep’s journey has been remarkable. In lieu of Prasidh Krishna, he was signed by the Royals after failing to sell at the last IPL auction. He became an important member of Rajasthan’s fast bowling unit from that point on.
Sandeep finished the season with 13 wickets in 11 games with a strike rate of 17.54 and an economy of 8.18.
In his commentary, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar pleaded with the BCCI selectors to give Sandeep a chance to play for the national team. He emphasized that, in spite of the emphasis on express fast bowlers, pacers’ performances are sometimes disregarded.
“We get excited whenever someone bowls faster than 140 kmph, but nobody discusses him as an India potential. “Observe the slower bowls; they exhibit ingenuity,” said Gavaskar.
