Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have won most of their IPL games, but they have lost the toss most of the time. Captain Shreyas Iyer said this after his team’s victory on Sunday moved them to the top of the points table.
Iyer dropped his eighth toss in 11 games against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), but it didn’t stop KKR from playing well. LSG sent KKR in to bat, and they scored an impressive 235 for six. They secured another significant victory on their path to the playoffs by limiting the hosts to only 137 runs, demonstrating their bowling power in addition to their batting brilliance.
At the Lucknow post-match presentation, Iyer stated, “The last six matches in the dressing room there has been havoc, teammates are coming in and asking skip what’s happening, we are losing tosses, but we are winning games that’s what matters.”
We got off to a terrific start in the powerplay. The opponent finds it challenging to deal with a left-right combination. It all comes down to having the freedom to express oneself publicly.”No matter what, we want to go out and be optimistic; sometimes things don’t work out, but other times they do.” After opening batsman Sunil Narine hit an unbeaten 81 off 39 balls, the bowlers did their part to secure a commanding victory.
Captain KL Rahul emphasized that LSG has to win their next three games in order to compete for a play-off berth, and that their squad would benefit from the do-or-die scenario.
“When we faced off against strong hitters like Sunil and others, we committed a few errors. It’s pressure like that that gets on our bowlers. When we return to the dressing room, we’ll have that conversation: let’s get past this match, analyze our mistakes, and work to improve.
“We have three games left on the road, starting with our final home game. We can see fairly clearly that winning every game is necessary to get to the top four. That will offer us a small amount of leeway to confront the game with a little bit more bravery and fearlessness,” Rahul said.
