The contentious dismissal of Virat Kohli during Kolkata Knight Riders’ dramatic one-run victory against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens on Sunday will go down in history.
With the team down 223 runs, former captain and star batsman Virat Kohli of the RCB was declared out on the first ball of the third over after being caught off guard by a full delivery from Harshit Rana and edging an easy return catch.
Virat opted for the review because he believed the ball was a waist-high full-toss and thus a no-ball, even as the KKR players celebrated the valuable wicket and the on-field umpire raised his finger.
However, the slower ball was seen to have sunk as it got to Kohli, and more crucially, the side angles revealed that he was not within the crease.
Ball-tracking revealed that if Kohli had been within the batting crease in his regular batting posture, the ball would have been below the waist.
An enraged Virat began to leave the field, shaking his head, then returned to exchange a number of heated comments with the umpires.
